[ music ] >> good evening and happy labour day weekend. i'm lindsay murphy. thanks for joining us tonight for sports extra. coming up meet one of the top football recruit from the country. plus ryan zimmerman walks away with some pirates loot. but first we have some red skins news. some good news as several sources said donovan mcnabb will start against the cowboys on sunday. after cutting 21 players yesterday a few will remain on the practice squad. the skins can keep eight players. only signed seven. all spent the pre-season with

the team. here they are. teams can sign practice squad players to the active roster if there are injuries or needs during the season. of the skins the six draft picks this past april only two remain on the 53-man roster. top pick trent williams number 72 is the team's left track will. and parry riley. number 53 out of is lsu was the skin's fourth round pick of the other draft picks. eric cook was released. dennis moore was traded to the st. louis rams. cares was released yesterday and signed to the practice squad today. >> you have to do what you think is best for your football team. the worst thing people do is keep a draft pick just to keep a draft pick. what you do is, you know, keep the people that give you the best chance to win. and, you know, you get 50% of your draft choices to make your football team, you have a heck

of a draft. maryland has a big game tomorrow when they face in- state rival navy. this is the 21st all-time meeting between the two teams. the first since 2005. the mid-shipmen hold a 14-6 lead in this matchup. while the mids try to build upon a ten win season last year for the terps all about erasing the bad taste of the season. he likes the idea of competing for maryland's bragging rights. >> i really think it's good for the state of maryland. i think for football in this state, but also just, you know, whether we play in basketball and football, to me it would be, you know, a great rivalry and something that i would look forward to. we need a rivalry in our -- in our situation. and i think an in-state. >> this season also kicks off tomorrow night for virginia tech. the 10th ranked will face

number 3boise state. they are coming off a six straight tenwin season. last year they kicked off the season against alabama. tomorrow another huge game right out of the blocks. that's why they come to virginia tech to play in games like this. you know, you are going to have a national audience game. hopefully a sold out stadium. and a very enthusiastic stadium. so, you know, i think our kids like this. that's why they come to virginia tech. >> it's time for our first break in the show. but when we return, it's a big day for big z. the season starts to wind down he is padding his stats. the national highlights up next when we return. dunne with two rbis on the day the nationals led 2-0. later in the 4-th up 4-0 ryan zimmerman collects a 2-0 run rbi. zimmerman's 4 rbis, the nationals pound the pirates 8-1 to win their first road series since may. the nationals host the mets tomorrow at 1 p.m. the orioles are hosting the rays, another rubber game. the orioles entered the 6th down 5-4 but scored six time. josh bell around third will try to score. upton's throw home is in time but they avoid the tag. the orioles go on to edge the rays 8-7. >> the third round of the deutche bank championship. a 93-yard birdie attempt and gets it to fall. an even march 71. 8 under and eight shots back. tiger woods could only manage

one birdie in today's third round. but this shot out of the rough on 18 set it up. a great putt. tiger with two under 69. seven under and ten off the pace. meanwhile phil mickelson on number 15 hits the pin on his approach shot. now he is tipping for birdie and this one he gets to fall. mickelson is 12 under par and five shots back. we move on, brent sentaker is died and needs this for a par and gets the chip to fall. he is 16 under shots behind the leader jason day. >> fourth round of the u.s. open third seed venus williams takes on 16th seed pair. venus had her hands full rallying from a 5-6 love 30 hole in the first set to win the tie breaker. puts the second set 6-3 to advance to the quarter finals. on the men's side fourth seed andy murray was sent parking by stanislav warenka. >> we need another time out but

underestimate. try six foot six inches and 310 pounds at the tender age of 17. >> it's pretty cool. i mean, i got a lot of eyes staring at me most of the day. and so i get used to it. >> reporter: at six feet six inches tall he might not only be one of the biggest kids but also one of the very best. >> it all could go for them. he could be a tremendous football player one day. >> reporter: if anyone who know bill mcgregor certainly would. at his 29 years here he has turned out countless nfl players, including 7 on nfl rosters last season. the most of any high school in the entire country. >> i expect great things from him this year. a tremendous college year. and then hopefully a great future down the road. but most important, i think cyrus has everything in perspective. >> reporter: it can be tough for his family. after all in cameroon american football is not, shall we say,
